SHY® Safety bulletin

Child safety and internal window blinds

SHY (UK) have supported the British Blind and Shutter Association’s ‘make it safe’ campaign since it was launched in 2009.

All of SHY (UK)’s products can be supplied with gearbox or motorised operation which are inherently child safe. For chain operated blind systems SHY (UK) provide compliant tensioning devices (to BS EN 13120:2009+A1:2014) which, when correctly installed, ensure that the chain is held taut and so remove an unrestrained loop.

Changes to child safety standards

The British Standards Institute published a revision to the child safety standard, including two test method standards, on 28 February 2014.

These standards affect blinds in any premises where children between 0-42 months are present or likely to have access. Consequently this affects all homes, public buildings and the publicly accessible areas of commercial buildings.

If you have any questions regarding child safety with internal blinds just contact us for advice.
