We work with distributors across the UK providing shading solutions for their end clients. We can save time on contracts by providing commercial roller blinds for windows where standard roller blind fitment is a problem. All our commercial roller blinds are designed and manufactured in-house, ensuring the high quality and reliability their customers expect.
Architects turn to SHY when they are looking to specify a particular design or need guidance on the window shading solutions possible for an unusual, large, uniquely-shaped or angled window. This means that our commercial roller blinds become an integral part of the overall design, and not just an add-on feature.
SHY also provides shading solutions for our referral partners, such as rooflight manufacturers, BMS and climate control businesses, to complement their product ranges and enable them to offer a complete service to their clients.

The family of our founder, Martin Dibben has a long history of roller blind making, having been in the industry since 1828. His great great grandfather was also the founding President of the BBSA (British Blind and Shutter Association) in 1919 and of which, SHY is still a proud and active member.
The acquisition of SHY by Guthrie Douglas group in 2022 added a global element to this history, with our parent company having exhibited at R+T, the global trade show for the shading industry, on every occasion since 1985. This understanding together with innovation and technology underpins the engineering and design services provided for SHY customers as shading solutions are developed for customer projects.
The origin of the name SHY stems from 1997, when the company was introduced to the ‘new’ zip technology from a business in Japan (S.H.Y. being derived from their founder’s name, Seizo Hayashicughi). We were the first in the world outside of Japan to work with “ZIP” technology. Since then, the company has specialised in SHY technology-ZIP® products, adapting them for the UK market and complementing them with other systems and technology.
